Kaplan turbines are specifically designed for hydropower plants with low to medium heads, typically—or most commonly—in the range of 10 to 70 meters. These turbines are very suitable for sites with moderate water flow and relatively low elevation differences. Kaplan turbines perform excellently in locations where water flow and head vary, making them adaptable to a wide range of natural conditions.
Because of their ability to operate efficiently at different flow rates and heads, Kaplan turbines are particularly suitable for rivers and locations where the water level can fluctuate. The adjustable blades of Kaplan turbines allow precise control and optimization of electricity production, making them the preferred choice in situations where flow conditions are not constant.
